I know from personal experience what you're going through. SORRY!

Ok, so for the time being I'll keep editing the thread until you're ready to come back and take it over.

Norm

BTW
Why use numbers like #0622 instead of whole VIN number like JYA1JH001FA000622? :ummm:

I don't see bad mofo's "stealing" Vin numbers of old Vmaxxers for any purpose :rofl_200:

I think Bacchus just wanted to keep the numbering simple. It looks like there are less than 6,000 VMaxes made in 1985 so 4 digits probably is all that is needed. ? But, you're right, stealing VIN numbers probably isn't an issue.

Indeed. and using whole VIN numbers could also clarify the questions I asked earlier in this thread, which btw no one seems to be able to answer :ummm:

my 85 Vin is 0387...?

vintage85, thanks for posting.

We've learned that Yamaha begins each model year with the last 4 digits beginning with 0101.

On the question how it is possible that that are Vmax's with the same serial number around Yamaha answered as follows:
(note: translation, the answer was from the Dutch Yamaha importer, in Dutch ofcourse ;))

"The last 6 digits of a VIN number are not unique, the combination of productionnumber, pre-code and eventual a checkcode make the VIN number unique. So it is possible that there are multple bikes with the same 6 last digits."

Therefore it would make a lot more sense to adjust this list with the complete VIN numbers. Since you could end up with 4 bikes with the #000253 number :D

That is good information. But so far it looks like it has only happened once on our list to VIN # 0261. So maybe it is possible as pointed out, but maybe rare. ? ?

.

last four are not unique...hmmm well what do the last four indicate then?

Last four is probably good production number if it is a "USA" bike. Doesn't the sticker say if it is made for U.S. ?

When in doubt...Gas it !!!

I gotta check some things out first but I got this having no idea what it was/is. All three of my 85s are titled although one is still a Tennessee title. This thing has 85 wheels, air forks, a mix of 85 foot pegs and one late model footpeg, late model side covers, the correct sticker on the removeable frame member, 94 Yellow tins. I have yet to check engine numbers. Hope it all checks out. Still waiting to see two consecutive numbered bikes but I am sure it's just a matter of time.

Last four is probably good production number if it is a "USA" bike. Doesn't the sticker say if it is made for U.S. ?

I think even within the USA the last digits are not unique since there seems to be a different Californi? model VIN, also there are a lot of Canadian bikes in the USA I hear.

I'm back with 0255. Guy replaced with a Shadow and wasn't going to get at 2nd gear. Add me back - never actually left, just left the 85 crowd :)

Great! Big.B, you never left VMaxes, but welcome back to the '85s ... The Originals that began The Legend. Thanks for posting.

The List is growing. :clapping:

Just went through my Craigslist app for all USA and there are a boatload of 85s on there. Not cheap either. Of course many say they have the "high horsepower" model. What a gas! One guy talks about how good it handles and how comfortable. Who are these people?
