Very sad to say but. A friend of my fathers that lived in Ohio was unemployed and really down on his luck to the point that he comitted suicide almost a year ago. Made us realise just how bad things were in some areas. I hope we see this turnaround soon.

I don't want to hear it. Anything about it.
I just had to fire myself and close my business. The economy sucks.

fuck you very much Obama.

That is a sobering look at the economy, I hope it turns for the better for everyone soon.
The Upper Peninsula has historicaly been high on the unemployment lists. Some of the cities are now reporting up to 24% unemployment. The U.P. has historicaly soldiered through a economy supported greatly by tourism. The in-between seasons are hard on businesses either waiting for snowmobiles or for summer vacationers to return. It has been hard but our casinos have weathered the downturn better than most businesses in the U.P., well, so far so good anyways.

Like I said once before....you wanted the job, said you could do it if we gave you a chance!

Well, you got it and it's time to get fuckin' HOT!!

You hearing me BO? :ummm:

No, I didn't think so!

Don't get me wrong, I am not a BO supporter. BUT.... How can you blame him for all that is wrong with the economy????? It takes a long time for politicians actions to make an impact on the country. The economy was F'''ed up when he came in. I just don't see him making things any better.

IN MY OPINION, and that ain't worth much, the economy was humming along at a fairly good clip until we endured 18-24 month's of a NEGATIVE AD CAMPAIGN from the Democratic party explaining to the average Joe American how we had a "failing Bush economy" etc (for the sole purpose of winning an election)..... then it really did start failing. :ummm::ummm::ummm:

If it smells like a duck, walks like a duck, looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it should be a duck. Right? That is UNTIL you spend untold billions of dollars convincing people it is really a flippin' skunk. :confused2:

Again, that was JUST MY OPINION.

I tend to avoid political discussions but what happened with the economy really boils down to people's spending habits. It was a big bubble and it burst.

I don't blame it on BA or GWB. I think GWB could have taken a more active role in seeing it as it was happening, but other than that it is what it is. I see BA taking a more active role, but this is a difficult time. We at least avoided the depression (even if the news says that we didn't :/) and you are seeing some sparks to it turning around.

We spent way too much, lived way beyond our means, and entered into strange financial arrangements to maintain that standard of living. For some reason we thought that would be able to continue forever. Guess what...it didn't and now we are paying the huge price.

There is plenty of blame to go around, but your average consumer needs to look up the words "balanced budget" and stick to it. Just because our government can live in a deficit doesn't mean we can.

My $.02...for what it's worth...:)

its all trickle down, before it bombed, gas here was 4.29 a gallon. im a punk kid making 300 dollars every two weeks.

if i had to fill up once a week in my s10, which had a 15 gallon tank,

thats over 60 dollars.

out of every 300 dollar paycheck, 130 was gas, thats almost half.

i didnt go to the theater with my friends, they had to lay off a worker... that worker didnt buy a car, etc etc

i didnt drink star bucks, they closed down.... those workers stopped spending...

i didnt go to the track anymore, they had to reduce to 2 races a month due to track expenses... etc etc

etc etc.. it doesnt stop

but its not just me, its all my friends, everywhere, all over the country...

take 100 bucks away from everyone in the united states.... that money is just vanishing, it is not invested... it is burnt up and disappears... literally...

boom economy crashes over night, gas goes down to 1.38 a gallon, i could fill up for 20 bucks. i was FREE, i had so much money to spend it was insane.
i had a hundred bucks in my pocket every 2 weeks i could buy whatever i wanted.

however, now my generation has 40 yr old people competing for our jobs, and weve all been forced to go to college. without good credit you get no where it seems.

its a mess.

one thing i hear all the time that bugs me to death, is "these young kids didnt learn enough in history class, look at how messed up our country is!!!!"

hey news flash midlife crises mom, WE DONT HAVE 20 YEAR OLD POLITICIANS!!!!! they are in their 40s, 50s, 60s!!! you messed this up!!!

there are too many people trying to live like their grandparents, getting paid on friday.. walking down to car dealer on saturday and buying a car,

people started printing money by spending what they did not have in their pocket, and now a nice car costs 20,000+, the economy had to bust eventually.

houses were going up in price 10% per year, but americas wages were only going up 3% a year... it had to bust some time.

for the younger generation like me, gasoline ravaged us

The economy is Obama's fault?
The American consumer, for years now has :

1.) Bought a house with borrowed money / mortgage for longer than their prime earning lives, all based on the affordability of ONE interest point. In the house they own they have :

2.) Bought furniture and tv's well beyond their means with lines of credit / credit cards in there driveway is their :

3.) Luxury suv bought/ leased on borrowed money.

In 2003 all the way over here in Canada we were discussing how that kind of economy was unsustainable. We knew it was too good to be true and patiently waited the crash. I am not an economist by any means but I realize that for a country to thrive they need some sort of export or product that people want. We have been out-sourcing our manufacturing to china / india and their economies are booming. We produce nothing and import and consume everything. Simply unsustainable.

Well we are sleeping in the bed we have made now. Walmart doesn't care if America crashes and burns - they will just open more stores where the money is. But we keep shopping there. We keep demanding the lowest prices and highest wages for the least amount of work.

Obama isn't to blame.

He has inherited a mess that is beyond ugly. Changing policies isn't going to save the economy is. Hard work, buying domestic, and new ideas/products will help. Sadly people feel they are entitled to jobs that pay well instead of working grunt jobs and working up the ladder.

I'm not knocking anyone in particular - but this "economic mess" has been writing on the wall for years now. This should come as a surprise to no one.
