Tried, real hard, for 3 fricken years to keep my 06 in stock condition. I loved the ?stock? look of the V-Max, that?s why I bought it! Most of my previous bikes remained stock; like the classic ?84 VT-500 Honda and a ?83 Suzuki GSXR 1000 that I had prior to the V-Max. So why not keep the V-Max stock too. Oh ? that was my plan and I told many fellow riders that, right Chuck (aka 2Fear).
Oh, I still did the recommended mods to make the V-Max better in handling & performance right from the get-go, and even snuck in an internal mod like adding Ricor valves to the forks. OK, maybe I crossed the ?keeping it stock? line by doing this, but from the outside, it was still all stock. :confused2:
At my first VMOA meet last summer in Paw Paw, Mi (what a kick-ass time I must say) got to see all a whole variety of modified V-Maxes for the first time. There were V-Maxes with NoX / blowers / chrome / all sorts of pipes & bling ? you name it, it was there. But I kept the faith? bike remained a stock?er; still looked like it did the day it rolled out of the dealer showroom. :biglaugh:
Then after an awesome 400+ mile end of summer Michigan road trip w/ 2Fear, Wildman, & Beekeeper, I came to the realization that my V-Max was not loud enough. I finally realized, like many of you already have, that the V-Max has to sound the way it looks? bad azzz ? and the stock mufflers just don?t cut it.
Then something happened. The only way I can explain it is like this. If you have seen the movie ?Animal House?, you?ll remember the scene where Pinto was in the bedroom looking down on his passed-out date laying on the bed, when an angel and devil of himself appears on his shoulders giving him conflicting suggestions.
Well, my angel was telling me to keep the stock mufflers and just punched holes in it to make it louder. That way you can keep the V-Max looking stock and make it sound a little meaner too. My devil :angry flame: on the other hand, told me? fuck it, replace the damn stock mufflers with some real sounding pipes. I ordered my Mark?s 4-2 SS 14? muffler exhaust system a couple weeks later. Love em ! :thumbs up:
Now that my V-Max is no longer ?officially? stock, I?m OK with this. But for you V-Max owners out there that have kept the Mod Monkey from your bikes and stayed true to the ?stocker? tradition, I applaud you for keeping the faith. :clapping:
But now that I?ve crossed over to the dark side, I got to tell ya, I kinda like it; feels a little naughty!! Next mod planned? replacing the stock seat with something more comfortable; got a new Maxgasser seat ordered from Rick. Will post pics
ics: of this in the next couple months.
Now I?m ready for some serious riding this season. :hippy biker:
