stalled, hard to start, walked it home! HELP!

hope this is nothing major!

today riding on the highway 100km/h (60miles/hour) it seemed to be missing (like if it was running out of gas, not the case had a nearly full tank), so I twisted the throtle WOT, nothing happend it was steady at 100km. I then pulled in the clutch to rev it, the rpms just dropped like a rock and the engined died.

rolled it with the clutch pulled in to a stop. tried to start it up again, semmed like it was low on power (like if battery was nearly dead) after 3 tries it started up again. rode a good 6 kilometers without any issues.

then it happed again , missing like out of fuel, pulled in clutch rolled to a stop again. tried to strat her up again after 5-6 tries of weak cranking it eventually started.

rode another 5 kilometers, then same thing again, only this time it did not restart. no power like If the battery was dead.

so pushed a good 10 kilometres, 3 streets from my house, I stopped to take a breather, tried to star her up again, it started again missing so I reved it up to 6K and took off to get home fast, before it stalled again, (at this point my legs a dead!) got home shut it off, tried to start it up again, no power tu turn started over.

I let it sit a good 1/2 hour, and now it starts like nothing ever happend!

now I don't even wan't to go for a test drive, because I know it will most likelly do the same thing again.

any of your help will be greatlly apreciated! If you need anymore info let me know!

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Did you ever attempt to switch to reserve ( even if you had a tank full of gas ) ? If not , try that and just drive around the block a few times . ( so you don't have to push it if it craps out on you ).

yes I did ( forgot to put it in the first post), Its actually the first thing I did.

hope this is not it, If so my riding season is over! :bang head:

when you engine starts again can you here it like it was before. i mean when you accelarate do you here anything it wasnt there??

if you dont have a mechanic problem check your fuel pump is working properly ,fuel filter as well. check 12 volts goes to the fuel pump less means trouble with feeding fuel in the carbs and in high rpms you lose power and stalls.
the thing that troubles me is that when rhis happened your bike was difficult to start , like mine. hope it is nothing keep us posted

Put the oil pan back on, it won't be that. I'd bet it is an issue with your charging system. Take a voltage reading at the battery with the bike at idle and at about 3k and post the readings here.
 
no abnormal sounds, when it whould restart, but then again didn't pay too much attention to that. just wanted to get home.

will do, just took it off and no metal shavings in there.

cold engine

idle= 12.00volts

3K= 13.00volts

I let it run a good 20 minutes, then shut her off.

when bike is hot:

before start up batteri reading 11.00volts when cranking drops to 3 volts.

Your battery needs to be replace, its not holding the charge & dropping to 3 volts.
 
Bad battery's can act strange sometimes, but if you are only getting 13 volts @ 3K your charging system is questionable.

Yes but with a battery like that I would first get a new fully charged battery then check the charging voltage if its lower than 14 volts at 2000RPM check RR connectors and grounding. max is notorious for bad ground and weak harness. weak charging eventually destroys the battery , RR, stator.
 
ok update time: (took a long time, thanks to post canada going on stirke!)

new battery Odyssey PC680 along with new enerwatt charger.

cold engine:

battery reading charged: 13.65volts
cranking: 11.5-11.7 around there
idle 800-900 rpm: 12.65 - 12.73 volts
4000 rpm (after 20 minutes warm up): 13.72volts

warm engine (after 15minutes cool down):

battery reading: 13.09volts
crank: 11.7
idle:12.65
4000rpm: 13.70volts.

I have done the crimp fix, and also fis the ground new to rear brake lever.

any step by step to check the RR?
