Nope, I was in Biloxi, pretending to be an air traffic controller for a while. However, the incident with that bird did help start a crazy vortex which eventually sucked me back into the bomber world. And those inspections you mentioned "sometime back" are still an ongoing misadventure up here.

I am a R&D Mechanical Design Engineer for an electronic sensor company.
One of the more interesting engineering jobs I have had, since it is in R&D. I set a a computer and come up with a bunch of different ideas on how to mount a sensor in a boiler or chiller system. Then I have software that I can analysis how the sensor will affect the flow of water around it, the heat transfer characteristics, etc.. If I had a model of a V4 engine I could predict what any change to it would due to air & heat flow throughout the system.

I'm an immunologist at a contract lab. Until recently I ran a cell biology lab with 4 people and a bunch of aged equipment, but now I advise clients on how to develop their drugs, which usually involves testing in that cell biology lab.
I work way too much with no vacation for 4 years and booked solid through July. I commute to work on the VMAX during the summer and enjoy working on it since bought a year ago. Just got Marks pipes and a Muscle carb but won't be able to install until august.
Given all of the mechanics/military/engineers responding to this thread, I don't feel quite so incompetent for taking much longer to fix things on my bike!

I'm just a student now, I was a CAD specialist and AutoCAD intructor at the University of Alaska,

I was just a journeyman Iron Worker , Structural welder and fitter. Then still payed the same to watch over guys in the fab shop. Then before I knew it doing more of the paperwork watching over more guys and still getting payed the same.... So you rock the boat a little getting ready for a transfer within the company doing QA QC work. Then all of a sudden the $ starts flying in your face with threats of moving me up to a foreman :rofl_200:
Tooooooooooo F'n late! They started pissing that away 5 months ago!
Why are people so stupid sometimes:ummm: It is easy to lose a good guy if your :deadhorse: is sleeping! now it is just kiss ass time :th_kissass:

Guess I'm posting this a little behind the curve. I am a maintainer on the most advanced fighter aircraft in the world. I'm an F-22 Avionics Specialist. I have served 20 years now and I want to do 20 more! I have also volunteered going to Japan aiding in the clean up of the recent tragic earthquakes and tsunamis. Let me tell you all how lucky we are living in this great country. I know Obama is running it into the ground along with the rest of politics, but in the end, it's us, we the people who make this nation great!!!!!!!
My brother was senior engineer in Boston when he retired a few years ago. He was qualified on the Acela but preferred to work the yard. He began as a fireman for Penn Central in the late '60's. He worked for Conrail & Amtrak. I went to work & shared a shift w/him before, lotsa fun!

I used to be on the admin side of the fence as computers go. Designing and maintaining office networks, building server farms, doing load balancing for web sites and web services, etc.
Then VMware came out. Which allows your servers to run as a set of files basically. Each physical server is merely a host for multiple complete windows or linux servers. Should that hardware crash or need to be powered down... all the important stuff fails over to a different physical box in seconds, and if you're doing it manually you can actually move it all to different hardware on the fly. No downtime what so ever.
Honestly it go really easy after that... sort of boring. So I changed over to writing software and have been doing that the last few years. Starting a new job as a lead developer this month at a new company.
Then I'm president of my own consulting company for side jobs and stuff. I've always done side jobs but they've gotten a little bigger over the years. So I decided forming an inc was probably not that bad of an idea for legal protection and getting bonded/insurance for wiring up new networks/etc.
Essentially... I build or fix whatever it is a business needs to do with computers. From running the wires, to configuring the networks, to standing up new servers, to writing software and websites.

My whole family is in the trades. So I've got a bit of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC experience as well from being a pair of hands on the occasional side job. I wouldn't say I'm any better at that stuff than the average home owner though really. I was mostly the apprentice doing all the shit work my old and busted relatives didn't have the body to do anymore. Like jackhammering up a basement, and then digging out a hole for an ejector pit. Then hauling big buckets of all that rock and concrete up a flight of stairs until it was gone.
