God help you if your company uses United Healthcare as the insurance company....
Cenveo - the band of assholes and thieves I work for does, and they are a bleedin' nightmare....

Those "substandard"plans do exactly what they advertise.
They are catastrophic plans with high deductibles, lifetime limits that are within reason, and they won't pay to fix your runny nose or skinned up knee.

This is based on what the guys I know that carried them told me. So yes third hand info.

If someone. Wanted to e able to carry a plan like that they should be allowed.

What's next?
Is myy car is too shitty I have to buy a better one??

Absolutely true!

But off point!

The point is your forcing someone to buy apples that would prefer the orange

I'm no tin foil hat wearing anti government weirdo but Obama care is socialism pure and simple.

And I can't stand socialism or idiots that think the economy is a zero sum game whereby anyone who has gained something means someone else lost out by that persons gain.

That in itself wouldn't be a problem, hell I want everyone to have a piece of the pie but before you get a piece you damn well need to contribute to making that pie.

I am far from a insurance agent or even playing one with hand puppets.

So I ll ask, $975 a month for health insurance is cheap ? From my understanding his covered, eye, dental and health and was coverage for 3 people ( possibly 4 I dont remember , but I know he has one at home and his wife with him ).

My insurance is accidental and catastrophic only. I have a $10,000 deductible, but a $25,000 accident plan that covers two years ( $12,500 a year for two years, so it covers my $10,000 deductible for two years ). I have myself and my son on it. The premiums are $350 a month give or take some some Washingtons. My plan covers 100%. I have a broker that works my insurance and is constantly emailing me with updates on policy changes and has moved me around a couple times to keep me stable or with the smallest increase. Maybe I am getting swindled. Because I usually know 98% of what I am into when I am working or interested in something. And health care should be something I am interested in, but honestly I am just trying to keep a company going and its often the last thing on my mind.

So a plan for $975 a month which is $11,700 a year is cheap?

I am just asking because if it is, than I am really screwed when I apply for my "old" man insurance plan.

Todd

Short answer: Yeah it's pretty cheap for any plan with dependents. I worked for a broker that used to do the same thing. Sell two plans as one with ultimate coverage around the out of pocket expenses and extending coverage limits into the millions. It only worked well because of the plans selected, and being sure they covered the other's shortcomings. Bundling plans like that ended up much cheaper than a single plan.

If it's just catastrophic then it might get hard to get within the coverage scope without actually being comatose.

Read the fine print on those plans too, most of them exclude fairly common reasons for needing them. Things such as infections that get out of control, or being intoxicated at the time the accident occurred will exclude coverage, even if the accident had nothing to do with your intoxication.

The other downside to that approach as the nightmare of getting either plan to actually cover what they were supposed to. They saw something coded wrong, or saw a different insurance plan was available, or didn't get the claim because the patient gave the wrong card, or the billing office submitted to the wrong insurance, or, or, or.

Even when all that goes right, it can be hard to try and get them to accept that they need to cover it. Such as that poor guy dealing with United Healthcare right now. A good broker will run that gauntlet for you, but it's no easy task even for those that live it every day.

In short, the whole industry is a shit show, and it's not getting any better or cheaper on it's own.

The problem is when their orange doesn't cover the apples they need care for they end up not paying for the apples they get anyway. Which raises for those already paying for the apples year after year with no end in sight. It's not even very predictable because it's hard to say how much unpaid for care will need to be recouped every year.

There's a market wide effect on everybody regardless. The option is to let it continue uncontrolled or try to control it.

Cork Soccers are stealing 160 a pay check from me in Medicare Surcharge Tax... Haven't seen anything on heathcare, but i will not be joining the "Marketplace". Told someone online today while trying to see how much more they would be stealing, when she couldn't answer me i told her that i'll see her and her friends at the revolution and that they will lose...

Ayn Rand said it best, no man is deserved a penny of another mans effort. I hate these people with all my heart and wish the worst for them all.

Ayn Rand who collected government checks when she could. Careful who you quote, they have skeletons in the closets.
Before I retired a few years back I saw my medical insurance costs go up every year. The company kept changing plans trying to save their money and the coverage was always less. Rising medical costs is not new nor has it to do with the Affordable Care Act.

Wrong answer Dave. Letter from my ins. co specifically stated my insurance was going up in cost significantly because of the Affordable care act. :bang head::damn angry:
And thats my "union" insurance co. not just a fly by night.

Which industry are you referring to? The government industry? I really fail to see the logic that a government run program is going work, their track record of running anything is a history of cost overruns, fraud, industry influence and lack of expertise. Look at how the AFFORDABLE care act's website rollout has gone, it appears that no one in charge has control of it's progress and all they can do is apologize and throw a bunch more money at it. To me it seems that if a government is to control the societies equality it has to lead to socialism, one part government legislation and one part government police enforcement.
I would like to see the actuarial tables for the government, the activities that will surely affect the rates upwards. Also, without a influx of new doctors to cover the mass of people requiring service the medical field could/ will be overwhelmed while the level of service that we enjoy today in the future it will be less available and delivered at a lower standard.

+1, the freedom of choice is being removed with this regardless of the what the "salesmen" have to say. If you don't fall in line to get the more expensive government "affordable" care you are sent to the gulag of ever increasing fines. I'm sure the buildup of Government law enforcement agencies are nothing to be worried about.... move along, stay in line, eyes forward, the government will provide!

Send that letter back and tell them they are liars. That is the latest excuse.

Health insurance has been going up for a long time. Private insurance companies are not your friend.

I never thought about it till now but I trust an insurance company more than the current administration.

My insurance hasn't gone up more than 2-3% a year in the last 5-6 years. Paying about $200 for an excellent medical, dental and vision 80/20 plan with reasonable deductibles, copays yearly max out if pocket and no lifetime limit.

Company I work for is self insured. We just pay blue cross a management fee. All payments come out of company funds.

The liar here is Obama and his regime. Thats why I made sure and said union. These guys are Obama friendly. A little more info for you dave. The significant increase in cost would be to meet the minimum requirements in the affordable care act. This is where you say "you must have lousy insurance". Thats not true, and who is the government to determine my health care requirement. I was satisfied with my plan, and the government won't let me keep it. lie after lie.
